Customer Reviews / Canon PowerShot SD3500IS 14.1 MP Digital Camera with 3.5-Inch Touch Panel LCD and 5x Ultra Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver)

I really love the size of the camera and ease of use. I was a little disappointed in a self timed shot that did not appear focused properly. I couldn't go back and retake as it was a birthday shot and I barely got my boys to sit still anyway. The camera was on a stable object and so it should have focused great. Otherwise I love the camera. The video feature works very well.
The more I play around with this camera, the more I like it. The image quality is great, the zoom is great, and the image quality is still good even if you get into the software zoom. Easy to use, lots of features. For example, last week I found the delayed-shutter feature and used it without needing the manual. In the process I discovered that you can set the shutter delay and you can have the camera take multiple shots when the shutter goes off. Increases the chance that everybody's eyes are open in the big family group picture. It's slightly larger than the 5-year-old powershot it replaced, but still easy to carry in a pocket or purse. The touch screen works pretty well, especially the touch-to-zoom feature, but scrolling is harder than it should be.
The negative reviews of the Canon SD 3500 IS gave me the jitters after I had placed my order. The camera is in my hands and I cannot agree on most of the issues. Clarity. Canon gives you so many controls it is easy to make a soft or off-color photo - by choice. Otherwise I get crisp, clear pics, equal to or better than the series of Casios I have used in the past. Slow shutter. I don't get this. In normal conditions, I get a faster shutter speed than with other cameras I have owned. If I want the camera to do a lot of focusing and adjusting for me, it may lag just a little, but that is my choice.
All in all, I have not had as much control over shooting a picture since the old SLR film days when I chose a lens, a filter, a type of film, then waited a week to see the result - and that was with a huge investment, not $300 total.
The basic issue is that the camera offers more choices for any one shot, even in "Auto" mode, than other pocket digitals. It's worth taking the time to explore all this camera offers. It's a gem.
I purchased this camera replacing a lost Nikon boasting similar resolution and expected similar photo quality. The touch screen interface for the camera will absolutely blow you away but unfortunately, the image quality is just not up to the same level. Just after purchase, I took the camera to China for a 6 week trip and was really disappointed that virtually none of the photos were crisp, no matter what settings I used. I was so disappointed that when I returned to the US, I returned the camera for repair assuming it must have been a defective unit. Canon immediately replaced the camera and to my dismay and disappointment, the replacement camera has exactly the same image issues. I've called and discussed with their tech service folks and it is definitely not that I have the settings wrong. The only reason I am giving the camera 2 stars and not zero is that the touch screen interface is so great. The user manual says that at the largest image size and finest resolution, the files are under 4 MP. Just how is that possible?
I'm loving my new camera. First off, ordering from Amazon was a breeze; free shipping, lowered price. I'm fond of the wide LCDpanel and enjoy reviewing pictures with the technical information right there. Operation is so effortless and clear. I'm getting great pictures and enjoying the ease of automatic mode. I like the size because it fits easily in my hand and my purse. I've had other Canon products and have learned to trust in their quality and performance.
